Ian McAvoy is Co-Founder, Chair, and CEO of Volterra Technologies and founder of its IP holding company, VEMX Technologies. A three-time cleantech founder with over three decades in transportation and technology — including two decades as a transit and municipal executive operator across the UK and California — he leads development of EVCare™, the AI battery health intelligence platform for zero-emission fleets.
Ian McAvoy is Co-Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Volterra Technologies Inc., a Vancouver-based cleantech company developing EVCare™ — an AI-powered battery health intelligence platform for electric vehicle fleets — and founder of its IP holding company, VEMX Technologies Inc. A three-time cleantech founder, Ian brings more than three decades across transportation and technology, including two decades as an executive operator in municipal and transit organizations in both the UK and California. He co-founded GreenPower Motor Company — serving as President and Board Director before it was taken public — co-founded Thomson Power, and founded the EV strategy consultancy EVIM Strategies, and earlier served as Chief Development Officer at the San Mateo County Transit District, Caltrain, and SMCTA. Educated in Edinburgh, Scotland, he divides his time between California and British Columbia. Founded in 2020, Volterra holds 1,200+ provisional patent opportunities across 18 IP categories, runs active paid pilots with leading North American transit agencies, and is backed by NRC IRAP grant funding.
